The Benchmarks Report helps you understand how your video performance stacks up against the rest of the industry.

It provides context for your metrics — showing what’s considered “good” or “bad” performance — based on anonymized, aggregated data from across the Vidalytics platform.

🚫 Restrictions: This feature is only available starting on our Premium Plan and up.

How to Access the Benchmarks Report

  1. Go to Analytics > Benchmarks in your Vidalytics dashboard.

  2. Select your date range and the videos you want to include.

  3. Adjust your benchmark filters (Industry, Video Type) if needed.

  4. Review your results — percentile tags and medians show where you stand.

  5. Click View Trends to see how your metrics evolve over time in the Trends tab.

What You’ll Learn from the Benchmarks Report

The Benchmarks Report shows how your key video metrics compare to industry-wide medians and percentiles.
Each metric card displays:

  • Your video’s actual value (based on your selected videos and date range)

  • The industry median benchmark

  • A percentile graph (25th, 50th, 75th)

  • A Top X% or Bottom X% tag

  • A short explanation of what this means for you

Metrics Included

Category

Metrics

Engagement

Play Rate, Unmute Rate, Bounce Rate

Retention

25% / 50% / 90% Retention

Conversions

Click Rate (CTA), Opt-in Rate (Play Gates), Conversion Rate

Each metric gives you actionable insight into how your audience interacts with your videos compared to others in your industry.

Segmentation and Filtering

To ensure accurate and relevant comparisons, benchmarks are segmented by:

  • Industry (e.g., Sales & Marketing, Health & Wellness)

  • Video Type (VSL, Webinar, Demo, etc.)

You can also filter:

  • Date range → impacts your video data, not the benchmark set

  • Video selection → choose which of your videos are included

  • Industry & video type → changes the benchmark group you’re compared against

💡 Tip: The more relevant your filters, the more accurate your benchmark comparisons will be.

Understanding Percentile Tags

Percentile tags show how your performance compares to others:

  • Top 10% → performing better than 90% of comparable videos

  • Bottom 25% → performing worse than 75% of comparable videos

Each card includes a short explanation so you can quickly identify improvement areas.

Data Quality and Methodology

Vidalytics’ benchmarks are built on strict data quality standards:

  • Data is anonymized and aggregated across thousands of videos.

  • AI algorithms help classify videos by industry and type.

  • Statistical models remove outliers and reduce noise.

  • Only videos that meet eligibility requirements (traffic, duration, settings, etc.) are included.

If a metric cannot be calculated (e.g., missing CTA setup) or there’s not enough data, the interface will show a warning or hide the comparison entirely.

Important Notes and Limitations:

  • Some metrics (like Conversion Rate or Click Rate) require CTAs, Play Gates, or conversion scripts to be configured.

  • Smart Vids are excluded from both user and benchmark datasets.

  • Industry selection must be confirmed in your account to access benchmark data.

  • Player settings (autoplay, thumbnail design, placement, etc.) can impact results.

Benchmarks provide guidance, not absolute rules — your unique audience and goals may vary.

Common Questions

What is the Benchmarks Report?

It’s a new analytics view that compares your video metrics against aggregated industry averages. It helps you interpret your numbers in context.

How are benchmark metrics calculated?

Benchmarks come from anonymized data across the Vidalytics platform, processed using AI and statistical models to create fair, relevant comparisons.

Why don’t I see benchmarks for some metrics?

If you haven’t configured CTAs, Play Gates, or conversion tracking — or if there’s insufficient data — those metrics may not appear.

How can I improve a low metric score?

You can:

  • Experiment with Smart Autoplay and thumbnails to improve Play Rate.

  • Add Play Gates to boost Opt-in Rate.

  • Optimize CTAs and conversion scripts for higher Conversion Rate.
