In this guide, we’ll cover how to create conversions from the micro conversion events you’ve set up using Vidalytics and Facebook. These steps will help you leverage video event data, such as percentage watched, to create custom conversions and audiences for more targeted ads.

Make sure you've set up Micro Conversion Tracking inside Vidalytics, here is an article on how to do that: https://help.vidalytics.com/en/articles/9976456-how-to-set-up-micro-conversion-tracking-in-vidalytics

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Ensure Facebook Integration is Active

  • Before setting up conversions, verify that Facebook integration is correctly enabled inside Vidalytics.

  • To do this, go to the page where the video is embedded and use the Meta Pixel Helper (a browser extension) to confirm that events are firing. You should see events like "1% watched" or "5% watched" coming through.

2. Verify Events in Facebook Events Manager

  • Access Facebook Business Manager and go to Ads Manager.

  • Navigate to Events Manager to ensure that the events from Vidalytics are being captured.

  • Go to Data Sources and test the events by entering your video page URL. Check that the correct watch percentages are being tracked.

  • If your events are coming through as expected, you’re ready to create custom conversions or audiences.

3. Create a Custom Conversion from a Video Event

Steps:

  1. Go to Custom Conversions in Facebook Business Manager.

  2. Click on Create Custom Conversion.

  3. Name Your Conversion:

    • For example, name it “50% Watch Event” if you want to track when someone watches 50% of your video.

  4. Select the Event:

    • Choose the specific event from the list of video engagement events being sent by Vidalytics (e.g., "50% watched").

    • If the events aren’t showing up yet, you may need to wait a few hours or up to a day for them to populate in Facebook.

  5. Apply Filters (optional):

    • You can filter your custom conversion by URL or event parameters, such as video title.

    • Example: Filter by the video title containing “Explainer Video” to only track conversions for specific videos.

  6. Save the Conversion:

    • Once everything is set, click Create. This conversion will now be tracked and associated with the relevant ads.

4. Create a Custom Audience Based on Video Events

Steps:

  1. Go to Audiences in Facebook Ads Manager.

  2. Click on Create Audience, then select Custom Audience.

  3. Select Website Activity:

    • Choose Website Activity as the source of the audience and select the specific video event you want to target (e.g., "50% watched").

  4. Set Retention Time:

    • Choose how long Facebook should retain users in this audience after they trigger the event (e.g., 180 days).

  5. Name Your Audience:

    • Give your audience a relevant name, like “50% Watched Audience,” and hit Create.

Note: Depending on the size of the audience, it may take some time for the audience to populate. If the audience is too small, it may not be large enough to serve ads to.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to use the video engagement data from Vidalytics to create custom conversions and audiences in Facebook. This allows for precise targeting and tracking, giving you a better understanding of how your videos impact your campaigns.
