This FAQ covers the most common questions about how Smart Vids work, how to track viewer data, and how to connect them to your existing tools.
Is there a limit to the number of video steps I can have in a Smart Vid?
No limit at all. You can add as many steps as your flow requires — whether that is 3 steps or 30. Build out as complex or as simple a funnel as you need.
How does tagging work inside a Smart Vid?
Tagging works throughout your entire Smart Vid as long as you are passing a unique identifier — such as an email address — through the URL. That identifier is stored in the session from the first video all the way through to the very last step, so tags fire correctly regardless of which path the viewer takes. Play Gates work the same way.
Can I track which choices my viewers make and send that data to my CRM?
Yes. Every time a viewer makes a choice in your Smart Vid, Vidalytics can fire an Interactive Tag that captures their answer and passes it to your CRM or email platform via Zapier. This lets you segment and follow up based on exactly what each viewer selected.

Can I use the same video in multiple steps or Smart Vids?
Yes. You can use the same video file across multiple steps within a Smart Vid or across different Smart Vids entirely. Each step maintains its own independent settings, so using the same source video in two places does not cause any conflicts.
What happens if a viewer does not make a choice before the countdown timer runs out?
If you have a countdown timer enabled on a question and the viewer does not select an answer before it expires, the Smart Vid will follow the default path you have configured for that step. Setting a default path is important to ensure your flow never gets stuck — make sure every step with a timer has a fallback destination defined.
Can I preview my Smart Vid before publishing it?
Yes. You can preview your Smart Vid at any time directly from the canvas. Hover over any step and click Preview from this step to simulate the experience from that point forward, or click the play icon at the top right of the canvas to preview the full flow from the beginning. Always preview before publishing to make sure all your paths and connections are working as expected.
