How to Set Up Micro Conversion Tracking in Vidalytics
How to pass video engagement data to Facebook or Google Tag Manager for retargeting and campaign optimization.
Micro conversion tracking lets you send granular video watch data — like how far a viewer got into your video — directly to Facebook or Google Tag Manager. This data is powerful for building retargeting audiences, optimizing ad spend, and understanding exactly how video engagement connects to campaign performance.
Both integrations work in a very similar way, so the setup is straightforward for either platform.
Availability & Restrictions
- Facebook and Google Tag Manager integrations are available starting on the Starter plan and above
Option 1 — Facebook Micro Conversion Tracking
How it works: Vidalytics uses the existing Facebook Pixel already installed on your page to send video engagement events to your Facebook Ads account. You can then use these events to build retargeting audiences and custom segments based on how much of your video each viewer watched.
Open your video's Integration settings — log in to Vidalytics, go to the video you want to track, and click the Integration tab.
Enable the Facebook integration — under the Facebook section, check the Enable Facebook Integration box.
Configure your tracking events — select the watch percentage milestones you want to track. You can choose from:
- Every 1%
- Every 5%
- Specific milestones such as 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%
You can also enable tracking for specific player events such as Play and Pause.
Save your settings — click Save.
Once saved, Vidalytics will automatically push each selected event to Facebook via your existing Pixel every time a viewer reaches that milestone. These events will appear in your Facebook Ads Manager and can be used immediately for retargeting campaigns and audience building.
Note: Your Facebook Pixel must already be installed on the page where your video is embedded for this to work. Vidalytics uses the existing Pixel — it does not install one for you.
Option 2 — Google Tag Manager Micro Conversion Tracking
How it works: Instead of sending data to Facebook, Vidalytics fires events inside Google Tag Manager based on the video milestones you configure. From there, you can use GTM to route that data to Google Analytics, Google Ads, or any other tool in your marketing stack.
Open your video's Integration settings — go to the Integration tab for the video you want to track.
Enable the GTM integration — under the Google Tag Manager section, check the box to enable the GTM integration.
Configure your tracking events — select the same types of watch percentage milestones as with Facebook — specific intervals or every 1% or 5% depending on how granular you need the data.
Save your settings — click Save.
Once saved, Vidalytics will trigger events inside GTM each time a viewer reaches a configured milestone. You can then set up custom tags and triggers within GTM to send this data wherever you need it — Google Analytics 4, Google Ads conversion tracking, or any other connected destination.
What You Can Do With This Data
- Retargeting — build Facebook or Google audiences of viewers who watched 25%, 50%, or 75% of your video and serve them targeted follow-up ads
- Campaign optimization — identify which ad traffic sources are driving the most engaged viewers, not just the most clicks
- Video performance analysis — see exactly where viewers are dropping off and use that to improve your content and scripts
- Funnel segmentation — treat high-engagement viewers (those who watched 75%+) differently from low-engagement viewers in your follow-up sequences
