How do I know how much bandwidth I’ll use?

Estimating how much bandwidth you will consume

You need to keep in mind that a lot of factors influence how much bandwidth you use. It will change depending on the resolution of your video, as well as how of it is watched.

But keep in mind that we transcode your video to be fully optimized for all the different devices and browsers that it will play on.

As a rule of thumb, most of our users will use 60MB each time their video is played.

Now, if you want to test exactly how much bandwidth could be used in real-time by a viewer, you can go to the page where your video lives, open the dev console and follow these steps:

  1. switch to the network tab

  2. filter to “vidalytics” requests only

  3. check the number at the bottom

As you already know, this is how much bandwidth you are using by watching the video, and it vary for someone with a different connection speed, for example.

We know this can get confusing, so until we build our bandwidth calculator, feel free to start a chat with us. :)

On another note, you should be happily surprised that you use a lot less bandwidth with Vidalytics because we use true Adaptive Bitrate Streaming. As well as Per Title Encoding, a type of AI that reduces your video size while keeping the same quality.

Finally, if you go over your bandwidth, it isn’t the end of the world. Your videos will continue to play. You’ll simply be billed per GB that you go over. You can check the different rates here, depending on the plan you've chosen.

If you need more bandwidth than our standard plans, you can also view our Enterprise pricing here.
